Troutman Lab

We study how macrophages and other mononuclear phagocytes regulate health and disease.
Our research is motivated by the urgent need to understand how these cells shape immune responses in chronic digestive and allergic diseases. These diseases affect millions worldwide.
We integrate epigenomic and transcriptomic profiling of highly purified cell populations from healthy and diseased tissues to uncover regulatory mechanisms that govern macrophage identity and function. Our work has revealed transcriptional programs controlling hepatic macrophage behaviors, niche specification, and cross-talk with parenchymal and non-parenchymal liver cells. We strive to publish our results in high-impact journals (Nature Immunology, 2023 and Immunity, 2020) and make our data and tools available to support the mechanistic studies of others across the field.
